Since 2015, the Peninsula Chamber of Commerce has advocated flying the Australian flag/banners in West Street Umina Beach on the existing light poles that were purposely designed for special event banners.

Flying the Australian flag is our way of celebrating Australia Day and standing proud behind our country’s national flag.

The Chamber had previously funded the cost of the flags and Council under agreement, had installed the flags. During that time, we had extraordinary positive feedback from the community until Council discontinued our agreement.

Since that time, the business community has once again requested that Central Coast Council fly our Australian flags on both Australia Day and as part of the commemoration of ANZAC Day in our main street. There is now an opportunity to include our sister towns, Ettalong Beach and Woy Woy. Once again, the Chamber is prepared to pay for the flags provided Council install them as part of its routine banner rotation.

This is an important project that is backed by our local business community, community groups and Mingaletta. It is a way of uplifting our main street and showing our patriotism for our country.

We are continuing discussions with Central Coast Council to once again, have the Australian flags flying in our main street and hope that this coming Australia Day, we can stand proud and fly the flag.
