Hon Davis Harris Minister for the Central Coast meets Peninsula Chamber

The Peninsula Chamber of Commerce recently hosted a business breakfast at Margarita Daze Restaurant at Ocean Beach to welcome the Minister for the Central Coast David Harris and State Member for Gosford Liesl Tesch amid concerns over housing availability and slow Council approvals.

“It was refreshing to hear from the Minister for the Central Coast that he fully understood the difficult state of housing availability and affordability on the Central Coast”, said Peninsula Chamber President Matthew Wales.

“David Harris, being a local boy, recognised that the Peninsula has a huge potential to provide medium density housing especially around our retail centres and rail stations where services already exist”.

“He also saw the need for greenfield development in the Warnervale/Wadalba precincts but acknowledged that urban expansion comes at cost where new infrastructure needs to be provided”, said Matthew Wales.

“However, the Coast is facing a housing availability crisis as new housing stock remains low, building costs are escalating, trades remain hard to engage and Central Coast Council continues to take way too much time approving new developments”.

“Whilst acknowledging that the Central Coast Council had meet it key performance targets whilst under administration, the Minister clearly remains concerned that the Council needs to improve its service delivery particularly in ensuring that residential land is released for new housing and development application assessment times are sped up”.

“The Minister clearly understands these housing issues and committed to delivering better outcomes whilst recognising that the NSW State Government is under pressure to reign in the State budget”, said Matthew Wales.

“The Minister knows that he has to deliver on the State Government promises but in his position as Minister for the Central Coast, he is ideally situated to secure more funding and better outcomes for the region”.

“Woy Woy town centre renewal, roads and the dredging of the Ettalong Beach Channel remain high priorities for the Peninsula Chamber and these issues were highlighted to the Minister”, said Matthew Wales.

“The Chamber will be lobbying the Minister’s office to ensure that projects such as the Ocean Beach Road/Rawson Road intersection upgrade and Ocean Beach Road/Dunban Road upgrade are delivered as promised as these are critical to alleviating traffic congestion on the Peninsula”.

Brisbane Water Oyster Festival Returns

After a three year absence due to COVID-19, the Brisbane Water Oyster Festival is finally coming back!

The Peninsula Chamber of Commerce has today confirmed that the Oyster Festival will be returning to Woy Woy on Sunday 12th November to be held at Lions Park on the beautiful Brisbane Water.

“We are really excited to be able to bring the Brisbane Water Oyster Festival back to the community”, said Peninsula Chamber of Commerce President Matthew Wales.

“Due to Covid-19 and lockdowns, the Chamber did not want to take any risks holding the event last year because of the high number of visitors to the area”.

“However, with life returning to normal, the Peninsula Chamber of Commerce is back organising this iconic festival”, said Matthew Wales.

“This year’s the festival is returning to Woy Woy at the Lions Park Reserve with the backing of Central Coast Council.  The beautiful park on the waterfront is a magnificent setting for a food and wine festival and tasting the famous  Sydney Rocks grown locally right here on the Brisbane Water”.

“We are heading into our 23rd year of holding the oyster festival and every year it has grown larger and more successful thanks to our Chamber members and the great expertise of our festival managers.”

“This year we are fortunate to have Liz Hart of Hart Event Management on board as our event organiser with her extensive event management experience across the Central Coast”, said Matthew Wales.

“Liz  is well into the planning for this year’s event with food, wine/beer and craft stalls being snapped up quickly”.

“Jenifer Green from G’day Hollywood Productions has already booked the whole day with live on-stage entertainment including with country music band ‘Pure Nashville’ headed up with Shane Edwards and Sally Fanwarr singing the timeless classics of Patsy Cline and Johnny Cash, Dolly Parton and Willie Nelson”, said Matthew Wales.

“During the afternoon will be the band ‘Pub Crawl’ paying tribute to the 70’s and 80’s with songs from Midnight Oil, Divinyls and INXS and much more”.

“We’ve always promised to present fabulous high class performers to entertain for the full day. Our formula has proven to be highly successful with record crowds every year” said Jenifer Green from G’Day Hollywood.

“ This year, the Brisbane Water Oyster Festival is proudly sponsored by Peninsula Plaza Woy Woy who have been a big part of the Woy Woy retail centre for over thirty years”, said Matthew Wales.

“Sponsorship packages are available to promote your local business leading up to and during the festival”.

“The Oyster Festival promotes the Woy Woy Peninsula, our beautiful waterways and presents an opportunity to promote our local oysters and local produce,” said Matthew Wales.

“We have visitors from all over NSW and interstate who because of the Brisbane Water Oyster Festival, come to enjoy the Woy Woy Peninsula and support our local businesses. And that’s what it’s all about, promoting our beautiful area to the rest of the world”, said Matthew Wales.
