FUNDING FOR PEDESTRIAN SAFETY ON OCEAN VIEW ROAD AT ETTALONG BEACH

The Peninsula Chamber of Commerce has today welcomed the announcement that funding has been made available for pedestrian safety measures on Ocean View Road at Ettalong Beach.

“After years of lobbying by the Peninsula Chamber of Commerce, we were delighted to receive confirmation that the NSW State Government will provide funds for pedestrian crossing points and traffic calming devices on the busy Ocean View Road corridor”, said President of the Peninsula Chamber of Commerce Matthew Wales.

Council has announced grant offer funding from the NSW Government’s (Transport for NSW) Towards Zero Safer Roads Program for safety improvements including pedestrian threshold works adjacent to the Ettalong Beach market complex near the intersection of Schnapper Road.

“The Ocean View Road corridor has been become increasingly dangerous with high traffic volumes and increased pedestrian movements as Ettalong Beach becomes more popular as a tourist and restaurant/café precinct”, said Matthew Wales.

This project has been high of the Chambers’s agenda and we are pleased that pedestrian safety will be improved with the project being developed and delivered across two financial years, with design and consultation to take place in Year 1 and construction in Year 2 subject to finalisation of the grant funding agreement.

Over the coming months, the Chamber will work in consultation with the Council to ensure that the needs of local businesses are addressed during the design phase and that specific safety blackspots are addressed”, said Matthew Wales.

It is important for the success of our retail precincts that both traffic and pedestrian safety are regularly reviewed and this funding package is a  reflection of the growing need on the Peninsula for State Government assistance in tackling the infrastructure needs in our busy town centres.
